Beaches in the City: Kato Paphos and the Promenade

In Kato Paphos, the hotel and harbour area of the city of Paphos, several sandy beaches sit close together along the promenade.

Faros Beach (Lighthouse Beach)

At the western end of the town, Faros Beach offers around 400 metres of golden sand. The water can be a little wavy here. There is a playground, a volleyball court and nature trails.

SODAP Beach (Vrysoudia A) and Vrysoudia B

Vrysoudia A, also known as SODAP Beach, is around 300 metres long with golden sand and calm, shallow water – good for families with children. At neighbouring Vrysoudia B, a lifeguard is on duty from June to October.

Alykes Beach and Pachyammos

Alykes Beach has around 200 metres of golden sand, and Pachyammos Beach in Kato Paphos has golden sand with very few rocks.

Paphos Municipal Baths

The Paphos Municipal Baths off Poseidonos Avenue combine wooden decking with small sandy sections over about 100 metres. Paphos harbour and its castle are only about 300 metres away, and the baths also host concerts.

Geroskipou Municipal Beach and Beaches East of Paphos

East of Paphos lies Geroskipou. Geroskipou Municipal Beach has a Blue Flag and, according to the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, is fully accessible, with a Seatrac. Neighbouring Laiki Beach has sand and calm, shallow water. Small Pachyammos 1 Beach is about 4 km from Paphos.

Coral Bay Beach and Laourou Beach: North of Paphos

North of Paphos on the west coast lies Coral Bay. According to Visit Cyprus, Coral Bay Beach is around 500 metres long, with deep golden sand between two limestone headlands. It has toilets, showers, changing rooms, sunbeds and umbrellas for anyone who wants to sunbathe, water sports, a lifeguard from April to October and a floating wheelchair.

Right next door is Laourou Beach (Corallia) with golden sand and calm water. A little further towards Agios Georgios is Kafizis Beach: small pebbles, rock formations in and out of the water and rather deep water.

Sea Caves and the Edro III Shipwreck

Between Peyia and Agios Georgios the coast turns rocky, with sea caves in the limestone. The wreck of the Edro III has been aground off the coast since 8 December 2011.

Agios Georgios

At the Agios Georgios fishing shelter there is a small sandy beach, opposite Geronisos island with its archaeological remains.

Lara Beach, Toxeftra and the Blue Lagoon on the Akamas

The Akamas peninsula in the north-west is a protected area, and its beaches are wild and largely undeveloped.

Lara Beach and Toxeftra: Turtle Beaches

Loggerhead and green turtles nest at Lara Bay. The Lara–Toxeftra area has been protected since 1989. From 1 June to 30 September, umbrellas, sunbeds and tents are banned, and you may not stay on the beach from one hour before sunset to one hour after dawn. Vehicles and fires are banned on the beach at all times.

Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon on the north-west coast of the Akamas is a popular day trip and easiest to reach by boat from Latchi. According to Visit Cyprus, it is around 10 metres deep, with a sandy bottom and seagrass – crystal clear water for snorkelling. By car, only gravel tracks lead there.

Polis and Latchi: Beaches on Chrysochou Bay

On the north coast lies the wide Chrysochou Bay. Polis Chrysochous Municipal Beach has a Blue Flag and is fully accessible. The campsite beach at Dasoudi has a mix of sand and pebbles. West of Latchi harbour is Kampos tou Souliou with around 800 metres of fine sand, and near Neo Chorio the roughly 1 km long Xistarokampos Beach with fine sand and small colourful pebbles.

At the northern tip of the Akamas lies Fontana Amorosa, Aphrodite’s legendary “Fountain of Love”, reachable by boat or a rough track.

Aphrodite’s Rock: A Pebble Beach Around Paphos

South-east of Paphos, Petra tou Romiou, Aphrodite’s Rock, stands off a pebble beach. Legend says the goddess of love rose from the sea here. You can swim, but the sea is often rough and there is no lifeguard.

Cyprus’ Famous Beaches in the East

Many lists of the best beaches in Cyprus feature beaches in the east of the island: Nissi Beach, Makronissos and Landa Beach in Ayia Napa, Konnos Bay at Cape Greco and Fig Tree Bay in Protaras. From Coral Bay it is around 185 km to Ayia Napa – too far for a beach day.
