About Pafos Zoo: the First Licensed Zoo in Cyprus

The zoo started with the large bird collection of Christos Christoforou. Instead of keeping it private, he decided to share it with the public. After about three years of building work, Pafos Zoo opened in September 2003. According to the zoo, it is the first established and biggest licensed zoo in Cyprus.

The grounds are green and spacious, with lakes, ponds, gardens and shady paths. Besides the animal enclosures there are three small museums: a Natural History Museum, a museum of traditional Cypriot pottery and a museum of traditional clothes.

Animals at the Zoo: From Giraffes to Parrots

The zoo lists more than 350 species from every corner of the globe. Among the best-known residents are giraffes, monkeys, meerkats, crocodiles, kangaroos, albino wallabies, mouflon, white lions and tigers.

Parrots, Owls and Snakes

According to the zoo, its collection of parrots and venomous snakes is one of the largest in Europe. In the aviaries you will see macaws, cockatoos and many smaller parrot species. The reptile area has snakes, lizards and iguanas.
